Selkirk RCMP investigate armed robbery, looking for suspect

On February 27, 2024, at approximately 9:30 pm, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a robbery with a firearm outside a business on Main Street in Selkirk.

An 18-year-old female from the RM of St. Andrews was leaving the business when she was approached by two males who produced a firearm and demanded her keys. The suspects fled in her vehicle heading westbound on Strathnaver Avenue.

Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle heading south on Highway 9 near Lower Fort Garry. A traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle did not stop, but proceeded at a regular speed. Police continued to follow the vehicle. Eventually, the vehicle slowed, moved to the shoulder, and entered the ditch on Henderson Highway.

Police arrested the 14-year-old male who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. He is charged with Robbery with Offensive Weapon, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Flight from Peace Officer, and Uttering Threats Against a Person. He was remanded in custody.

The RCMP continues to look for a second suspect. If anyone has information, please call Selkirk RCMP at 204-482-1222, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
