Statement from the Lieutenant Governor on Accession Day 2023

Since Her Majesty's passing one year ago today, Ontarians have come together to pay tribute to a beloved Queen, to share our collective grief, and to support His Majesty The King in his accession.

For more than seventy years, Queen Elizabeth II was a beacon of civility, caring, and commitment to duty. Against the backdrop of a turbulent world, she was a calm and enduring presence, and a firm foundation beneath our civic lives and institutions.

We might honour Her Majesty best by following her example of a life of humility and service. As we mark the accession of His Majesty Charles III, may we re-commit to working together, with open hearts and open minds, towards the ideals she embodied.
