Congressman Cohen Announces $3.1 Million in COVID-Response Funding for UTHSC

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive $3,148,012 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse expenses it incurred in ramping up to address the COVID-19 pandemic threat. The funding will pay for, among other things, the rental of tents used for testing at the center's parking garages, protective clothing and equipment, additional oxygen supplies and freezers for storing vaccines.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"We were all impressed with the speed and efficiency with which UTHSC addressed an unprecedented public health emergency, saving lives and monitoring the community's response. The costs it incurred are now being reimbursed by FEMA in a carefully audited process that assures no duplication or unnecessary expense. UTHSC's approach to this crisis is a model for the inevitable public health emergencies we will face in the future, and I congratulate its success."
