The Volleyball Canada Youth National Championships are returning to Edmonton for the seventh consecutive year, solidifying Alberta's standing as a premier destination for major sporting events. Alberta's government is providing $155,000 in funding toward the planning, staging and delivery of the competition.

Over the span of the twelve-day event, nearly 40,000 athletes, coaches and spectators will flock to the province's capital for the competition. This influx of visitors will drive accommodation bookings and increase activity at local businesses, bolstering the region's economy by more than $22 million.

"Alberta has an excellent track record of hosting major events, and the Edmonton EXPO Centre is one of our province's premier event spaces. Alberta's government is proud to support the 2024 Volleyball Canada Youth National Championships and welcome the next generation of volleyball stars to our capital. Hosting events like these gives Albertans a front-row seat to watch the nation's best compete and allows our Alberta athletes the chance to play in front of a home crowd."

Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport

The Championships are taking place at Edmonton's EXPO Centre, where 1,264 teams will compete for the title, including 443 teams from Alberta. The event, organized by Volleyball Canada, will consist of three separate tournaments. Played in a festival style, the tournaments will feature more than 3,000 matches played across 56 volleyball courts and include age brackets ranging from 14U to 18U.

"Volleyball Canada is thrilled to be back in Edmonton to host Nationals. Several factors, including the venue of the Edmonton Expo Centre, make the city ideal for a tournament of this scale. The support from the community has made the many teams from across the country feel welcome and has allowed participants to have an all-round positive experience."

Sandra de Graaff, director of domestic competitions, Volleyball Canada

Volleyball Canada's Women's Para Team, ranked first in the world, will also be hosting Red & White matches during the Youth National Championships in Edmonton before heading to Paris to attend the 2024 Paralympics this summer.
