FREDERICTON (GNB) - A coroner's inquest into the death of Jason Barnaby-Gloade will be held May 27-31 at the Campbellton courthouse, 157 Water St.

Barnaby-Gloade was found unresponsive in a cell at the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre and pronounced dead at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on May 28, 2022. The inquest is mandatory as per section 7(a.1) of the Coroners Act.

Deputy chief coroner Emily Caissy and a jury will publicly hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal court proceeding that allows for the public presentation of all evidence relating to a death. The New Brunswick Coroner Service is an independent fact-finding agency that may not make any finding of legal responsibility.

The first day of the inquest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with jury selection.
