Agricultural input price indices, January 2024
Prices slightly higher than in December, but lower at the annual level
In January 2024, agricultural input prices increased only at the monthly level. In monthly as well as annual comparison, the prices of seeds of crops considerably increased, particularly due to higher prices of seeds of maize.

Prices slightly higher at the monthly level …
Agricultural input prices increased on average by 0.6%. The prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture (input 1) went up by 0.7%, and of goods and services contributing to agricultural investment (input 2) by 0.6%.
In the first group (input 1), the prices of seeds of crops and of veterinary services increased the most (on average by 16.9% and by 4.0%, respectively).
In the second group (input 2), the prices of materials increased by 0.5% and of buildings by 0.9%.
… but lower at the annual level
Agricultural input prices were on average 8.1% lower than a year ago. The prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture were 12.5% lower, while the prices of goods and services contributing to agricultural investment were 2.7% higher.
Compared to the year before, fertilizers were cheaper by 43.3%, animal feedingstuffs by 19.0% and energy and lubricants by 5.3%.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTE
In 2024, we started calculating the agricultural price indices using the year 2020 as the new base period (previously the base year 2015). In the SiStat Database, monthly and annual indices calculated with the base year 2020 are available for the 2015-2023 period and for the current period.
Monthly data for the current year are provisional. With each release the data can be corrected and completed with new data. Monthly data get the status of final data with the publication of annual data (at the latest at the end of February next year).
