Metrorail track work on five of six lines, station closures this weekend

For immediate release: April 23, 2024

During the weekend of Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, Metro will perform maintenance and repairs on five of six lines. On the Red and Green lines, trains will single track through the work zones and on segments of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines free shuttle buses will replace trains.

Four stations on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines will be closed Saturday - Deanwood, Minnesota Ave, Benning Road, and Capitol Heights. Free shuttle buses will run between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly/Addison Road.

All four stations will reopen Sunday; however, a segment of the Orange Line will remain closed between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Ave with free shuttle buses replacing trains between the two stations. The work is part of Metro's Aerial Structure Rehabilitation Project. Crews will work to reinforce the structural integrity of the aerial structure outside Stadium-Armory, closing sections of track where the three lines split. Crews will also install radio and fiber-optic cables, and repair concrete grout pads which support the rails.

On the Red Line, trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights for tunnel leak mitigation, sealing up any water leaks within the work zone. On the Green Line between Anacostia and Southern Ave, crews will install fiber optic cable to support future technology upgrades and perform maintenance to maintain a state of good repair.
