SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd University Board of Governors voted Thursday to increase tuition for full-time in-state students.

During the regular meeting, board members discussed the recommendation from the Shepherd University Tuition and Waiver Committee to raise in-state tuition by 5% in fall 2024.

The increased in-state tuition will mean an additional $414 per year, bringing the annual cost for a full-time student to $8,282, still below the average cost to attend other West Virginia state universities.

The committee's recommendation included an increase in rates for food and housing for all students of 4.95% and an average of 2.4%, respectively.

The committee also recommended separating the capital, auxiliary, and compliance fees from standard tuition charges and removing them from institutional discounting or waivers following their review of the University's tuition structures.

The adjustment means all students will begin supporting the cost of maintaining items like athletics, the Wellness Center, and technology.

The committee did not recommend increasing out-of-state tuition.

The last tuition increase came two years ago and included both in and out-of-state tuition.
