Branigan Library Partners with State Library to Offer Scribe Mini for Blind and Print Disabled

Starting Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., is partnering with the New Mexico State Library to offer access to a Scribe Mini machine for Blind and Print Disabled customers.

The Scribe Mini is a self-service station for patrons familiar with the digital cartridge process. This service will be available to members of the public - eligible for Blind and Print-Disabled services - any time Branigan Library is open.

Community members interested in signing up for a Talking Books Player should visit the State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled's website at https://www.nmstatelibrary.org/lbpd/.

Sam Lundburg, Reader Advisor for the New Mexico State Library for the Blind and Print Disabled, said, "We are excited to expand our pilot program to the southern part of the state through this partnership with the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces. We think this will be a real benefit to our patrons in the area and help spread awareness of talking book services.

"We serve all of New Mexico through the mail, but there is nothing like the local library to connect with local resources, programs, and events. This project will help our patrons connect with their community in a way we can't offer alone."

In addition to the Scribe Mini, Branigan Library has expanded accessibility options to include: NVDA screen readers and high-contrast/large print keyboards in the Computer Lab, a DVD collection featuring more than 1,500 titles with descriptive captioning, magnifiers, a Video Relay Service station, and text-reading C-Pens.

This document can be made available in alternate formats by calling 575/528-4102 or 575/528-4008 (TTY). Anyone who requires an accommodation for a disability to participate in this event should call the library at least 48 hours in advance at 575/528-4102 or 575/528-4008 (TTY).
