Celebrate the start of summer with Play Streets Week: June 15 through June 23, 2024. Summer is a wonderful time to go outside, enjoy the sunshine, and connect with your community.

Our Play Streets program is a great way to close your street for some neighborhood fun. We've also made applying for a Play Street and getting the signs needed for your street closure easier than ever. Apply by June 2.

Here are 3 ways you can participate:

  1. Sign up using this simple registration form
  1. Apply for a Play Streets permit through the Seattle Services Portal
  1. Call us at 206-684-5253

Play Streets are not just for kids.

They are a great way to meet new people in your neighborhood and can be multi-generational spaces that are inclusive of everyone. Imagine what you can do on your block when you realize that Seattle's streets are for more than just cars!

Play Streets support the Seattle Transportation Plan's goals of making Seattle more livable by making it easier for people to gather and play in public spaces across the city.

Send us your pictures of your most creative Play Street activities and be sure to include the hashtag #SeattlePlayStreets. You can also tag us on X and Instagram at @seattledot.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Play Streets can only occur on streets that do not have yellow or white lines.
  • We provide free Play Streets signs and Street Closed signs for use BEFORE dusk, free of charge.
  • Email [email protected] to inquire about sign availability and pickup times at the Seattle Municipal Tower in downtown Seattle (700 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104).

If you live on a Healthy Street, hosting an event is even easier since your street already has barricades and "STREET CLOSED" signs. You do not need any additional permits to hold a Play Street on an existing Healthy Street! You'll still need to follow the guidelines, and you can print out extra signs to let people driving know about your planned activity. Learn more with the links below:

Street & Sidewalk Activities Permits are now free!

Interested in planning a community street closure for an event with between 100-300 people in attendance? Our Street and Sidewalk Activities Permits, which are usually $75, are now free through 2025. Find more details on our website.

Thanks for your time and interest, and we hope you sign up to host a Play Street in your neighborhood during our Play Streets Week on June 15-23, 2024!
