A Message from President H. James Williams: 2024 Year End Address

President H. James Williams, Ph.D. provides a year end address for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Dear Mount Community,

As this academic year comes to an end, I have reflected on our successes and challenges, and keep coming back to one thought-how grateful I am.

I am grateful to our students for choosing to attend the Mount, and for sharing their talents and energy with us on campus every day.

I am grateful to our alumni and friends, who support the Mount Community, help us enrich our campus culture, and provide opportunities for our students.

I am grateful to our Foundresses, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, for establishing the Mount's values and Mission, and building an academic environment where we empower our students to develop their gifts and encourage them to grow toward their full potential.

I am grateful to our faculty and staff. They have risen to the challenges this year has brought. They have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to our students, their dedication to our Mission, and are among the very best in the nation.

After more than 40 years in higher education, my greatest professional honor is unquestionably being the President of Mount St. Joseph University. The Mount is an extremely special place, and I am so grateful to be here serving our Community and helping to guide the Mount into the future.

Recently, our fantastic social media team posted interviews of students sharing their favorite thing about the Mount. The answers were great-a student remarked that the Mount cares about him as a person and who he wants to be, another shared that she loves the Mount's small class sizes, and another shared that his favorite thing about the Mount is our community.

It is impossible for me to narrow down my favorite thing about the Mount to just one thing. Yet, this time of year my favorite thing about the Mount is graduation.

Graduation is the culmination of the incredibly hard work of our students, the guidance and support our students have received from our faculty and staff to achieve their academic goals, and demonstrates how we live our Mission-preparing our graduates in mind, body, and spirit for the future. Graduation is also a time to be optimistic about the future-what it holds for our students, and what it holds for the Mount.

I know that our future is bright, and I am grateful that I get to be part of the wonderful Mount St. Joseph University Community.

I wish our students taking exams this week the best of luck, and I look forward to seeing all of our graduates walk across the stage on May 11th!

Sincerely,

H. James Williams, Ph.D.
President
