15-year-old girl dies following single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian

A 15-year-old girl has died following a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in Alexandra, P.E.I.

On October 2, 2022, at approximately 12 a.m., members of the Queens District RCMP were on patrol near the Wharf Road in Alexandra when they observed 30-40 youth gathered around a bonfire. While on scene dispersing the youth, police were alerted to a gravely injured girl who was struck by a pickup truck. The pedestrian, a 15-year-old girl from Abegweit First Nation, P.E.I., died at the scene as a result of her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck and the passenger, who had alerted police, remained at the scene and were not injured.

Island EMS and Crossroads Fire Department assisted with responding to the incident. AnRCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the P.E.I. Coroner's office are assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the girl's exact cause of death.
