Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, together with Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, participated on Thursday, August 8th, in the military Port of Constanța, in the ceremony marking the return to the country of "Mircea" Training Ship.
In his speech, Minister Tîlvăr appreciated that the 43 days spent at sea represented an important period in the career of the young cadets and congratulated Captain-Commander Silviu Moraru on his first mission in command of the ship. "I watched with admiration and emotion as the ship approached the dock, with the young cadets displayed on the rigging. The traditional sailor's salute from the spars of the symbol sailing ship of the Romanian Naval Forces is a memorable picture, which every Romanian should see at least once in his life", the Minister of National Defence stated.
Also, Angel Tîlvăr noted the excellent condition of the training ship which, at the venerable "age" of 85, is perfectly functional, has got state-of-the-art equipment onboard and continues to be an excellent ambassador of our country. " "Mircea" Training Ship increases our national pride when it docks in the foreign ports it visits. For the communities of Romanians in the diaspora, this represents a part of Romania that soothes their longing for home and their loved ones", Minister Tîlvăr concluded.
During the ceremony, the Minister of National Defence and the Chief of Naval Forces Staff awarded emblems to the crew members and cadets who achieved outstanding results during the six-week training period in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
86 students of "Mircea cel Bătrân" Naval Academy, as well as eight foreign students of partner naval academies from Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, Spain and Turkey, were onboard the sailing ship for six weeks on an international training march conducted in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
