New York Building Congress Hosts 103rd Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon

Award winners include Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of Partnership for New York City, and Park Tower's Greenpoint Landing development; Labor leader Gary LaBarbera is Guest of Honor

New York, N.Y. (May 8, 2024) - Yesterday, the New York Building Congress hosted its 103rd Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon at the New York Hilton in Midtown to celebrate the notable individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the building and construction industry. The event was hosted by Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President and CEO of the New York Building Congress, and the guest of honor was Gary LaBarbera, President of the Building & Construction Trades Council.

At the luncheon, Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of Partnership for New York City, received the Jack and Lewis Rudin Award for Service to New York City to commemorate her incredible work mobilizing private sector resources and expertise to advance New York City's standing as a global center of economic opportunity and upward mobility. Greenpoint Landing, Park Tower's newest development, received the Building the Future Award. The development created 5,500 apartments on 22 waterfront acres in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, not only opening hundreds of affordable homes but also five acres of green public space.

"There is so much good news happening right now for our industry," said Scissura. "We have a new state budget, and in that budget is a housing package that delivers in a big way for us to start building our way out of the affordability crisis New York finds itself in now. We'll also be seeing billions of dollars in funding for infrastructure and mass transit capital projects, and aside from that, our new "Construction Outlook Update: Workforce Snapshot" report is now out and shows that by the end of the year, we will have bounced back as an industry to a workforce that is larger than it was before COVID-19 struck. These are big things to celebrate."

"Today, we get to do one of my favorite things: recognize, celebrate and elevate excellence," said Building Congress Chair Gregory A. Kelly, President & CEO of STV. "As I look at the list of distinguished leaders we are honoring, I'm reminded of the immense talent we have in this industry. And it makes me optimistic for the future of our profession. Real change takes tenacity. And these individuals have gone beyond 'doing the job' - they have aimed high. And they have made an impact.

Les Hiscoe, President & CEO of Shawmut Design and Construction, and Jill Lerner, FAIA, Principal, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, served as the co-chairs of the luncheon. Mark Gregorio, President of TEI Group served as Journal Chair.
