MSU Moorhead Spring BFA Exhibit #2 open April 8-May 9

Artist reception is Thursday, April 11

An MSUM art exhibit featuring works by graduating art students will be displayed in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts gallery April 8 through May 9. The exhibit is in partial fulfillment of students' Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees. The exhibit features a range of media, including painting, drawing and illustration, printmaking, digital design, photography, ceramics, and sculpture.

The gallery will hold an artists' reception on Thursday, April 11, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Featured artists:

Mackenzie Reeder, a Shakopee High School graduate, will graduate with majors in studio art (emphases in printmaking, drawing and illustration) and English (writing emphasis), along with a book illustration certificate. The exhibit includes seven original artworks and one temporary mural.

She says, "I often work with ink in relief woodblock and screenprint. Relief is the process of cutting or etching a surface (in my case, wood), so all that remains is a raised surface of the design to be printed. I also work with screenprint, which allows for beautiful colors and fun with overlapping tones and transparencies. With these two mediums, I combine my love of drawing with my knowledge of design and space."

Mackenzie's parents are Melody and James Hime, Shakopee, and Joseph Reeder and Sandra Voelker, Northfield.

Elizabeth Eggl, Bismarck, N.D., is a double major in English and art (painting focus) with a minor in psychology and art therapy. Her BFA show is entitled "Seasonal Reflections."

Painting Seasons 2, Summer (Elizabeth Eggl)

"I use oil paints to reference places I encounter daily during walks or cross-country skiing. These paintings reflect the peace and contentment I feel within these spaces and the loveliness I find in those experiences. I invite the viewers of my paintings to search out beauty in the daily landscapes they experience through their own artistic eye, in whatever form that takes," Elizabeth says.

Elizabeth is a Bismarck High School graduate and is the daughter of Mike and Angie Eggl, Bismarck.

Grace Lougheed,Fargo, N.D., is graduating with a BFA with an emphasis in drawing and illustration. Of her work she says, "I primarily work with digital media. For my show, I've created a variety of high fantasy inspired illustrations as well as a prologue to a comic I've been developing for a few years. I focus on telling stories through my work and designing whimsical fantasy characters," Grace says.

The Oak Grove High School graduate is the daughter of Sonja and Ross Lougheed, Fargo.

Aitkin High School graduate Savannah Watson will graduate with a degree in studio art (drawing and illustration emphases) and certificates in sequential art and book illustration.

"My medium is mostly digital, with some gouache and colored pencil pieces," Savannah says. For the exhibit, she worked with her friend and computer science major, Tyler Sather, to create a video game. "It's a simple dating sim, where you are a paranormal investigator and get to talk with - and even date - the ghosts you find. In the exhibit I'm displaying different pieces I made for in-game, promotional material, and character designs, and I will even have it set up so you can play the game yourself."

Savannah is the daughter of Keith Watson and the granddaughter of Lois Watson, both of Palisade.

Kate Stafford graduated from Moorhead High School and is graduating from MSUM with a degree in art education and a minor in studio art. Her exhibit focuses on watercolor and ceramics. She says, "Those became my preferred mediums as I advanced through the program. I especially loved exploring watercolor through my theme of family-related pieces this past semester."
