U.S. Rep. Lawrence Tours Beaumont Health Vaccine Clinic and Launches Mass Vaccination Week

Southfield, MI - Today, U.S. Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) toured Beaumont Health's vaccine clinic with local Michigan leaders and launched Michigan's 14th Congressional District Mass Vaccination Week. She was joined by Beaumont Health leadership, Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver, Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, Michigan State Representative Kyra Harris Bolden, and Michigan State Representative Brenda Carter. They discussed the work they're doing to increase awareness and accessibility of the COVID-19 vaccine as well as the importance of Mass Vaccination Week. 'Throughout this pandemic, Beaumont Health and its dedicated frontline workers have been instrumental to keeping our community safe. I'm grateful every day for their commitment to the health and well-being of Southfield residents and all Michiganders,' said Rep. Lawrence. 'I'm proud that Beaumont Health, along with organizations across the 14th District, are coming together for our Mass Vaccination Week. This is a community-wide effort to GOTV-Get Out The Vaccine-and help get Michiganders vaccinated. This is exactly how we'll get through this pandemic. Together.'

Beaumont Health Chief Operating Officer Carolyn Wilson added, 'We are honored to be partnering with Congresswoman Lawrence to encourage more people to get vaccinated. At Beaumont, we truly believe vaccines are the key to protecting the communities we serve. Vaccines will help us all end this pandemic. We are proud to have provided more than 312,000 doses of the vaccine so far and we are eager and ready to vaccinate even more people. We all need to work together to encourage everyone to get a shot.'

'The only way we are going to be released from the grips of the pandemic is through vaccinations. I urge everyone to get vaccinated so that we can return to more normal living,' said Mayor Siver.

'During the early part of this pandemic more than a year ago, our area of southern Oakland County was among the hardest hit in the state from this insidious disease. We have been able to endure through our collective resilience and the Michigan ingenuity that played a critical part in the production of the vaccine. We are proud to roll out the Mass Vaccination Week initiative right here in our own community,' Sen. Moss (D-Southfield) said. 'I'm grateful to be fully vaccinated, and there are safe and effective vaccines available for every Michigander age 16 and older -- now easier than ever to access. We can close this dark chapter if everyone does their part and takes advantage of these vaccine opportunities.'

Together we were able to Increase awareness regarding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and give further awareness about vaccinations. I am deeply committed to advocating for my community's wellbeing and ensuring their voices and concerns are heard in Lansing,' said Rep. Harris Bolden.

'It is very important that our communities of color vaccinate, not only for their safety, but for our safety. The fear of the Tuskegee experiment should not deter us from a vaccine that saves lives,' said Rep. Carter.
