Seasonal Water Main Flushing

Green Bay Water announces the start of its annual water main flushing program, beginning on Monday, April 22, 2024. The flushing program is an essential maintenance activity that helps ensure the safety and reliability of the city's drinking water system.

During the flushing program, crews from the Utility will open fire hydrants throughout the city, allowing water to flow at a high velocity to remove any accumulated sediment or mineral buildup in water mains. This process may result in temporary discoloration or cloudiness of the water, but it does not affect the safety or quality of the water.

The Utility advises residents and businesses to check their water before drinking, cooking or laundering. If the water appears discolored, the Utility recommends letting it run for a few minutes until it becomes clear.

Green Bay Water wants to remind customers that a GIS map is available on their website, gbwater.org. This map lets customers see the flushing progress by providing information about which areas have already been flushed and which areas are scheduled to be flushed next.

"The flushing program may cause temporary inconvenience to our customers, but it is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of our drinking water system," said Green Bay Water General Manager Nancy Quirk. "We encourage customers to stay informed by checking the GIS map on our website and contacting us if they have any questions or concerns."

Green Bay Water Utility is committed to providing safe and reliable drinking water with exceptional customer service and value to the community and appreciates the cooperation of its customers during the annual flushing program.
