GCSU Earns National Recognition for "Exercise is Medicine" Program

Student Life, Office of Friday April 19, 2024

GCSU is one of just 145 universities nationwide receiving recognition from American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for our involvement with Exercise is Medicine - On Campus, or EIM-OC. GCSU received bronze-level recognition.

The program, which launched at GCSU last year, offers a one-on-one approach to improving students' mental and physical health. Additionally, the program aims to make daily movement a part of campus culture and create lifelong physical habits.

EIM-OC is a collaboration between Wellness & Recreation, Student Care & Outreach, Student Health Services and Counseling Services, and incorporates all aspects of GCSU's on-campus community: students, faculty and staff.

Dr. Dan Nadler, interim vice president for Student Life, noted the significance of the achievement. He also praised Amy Whatley, director of student care and outreach at the Office of Student Health and Wellbeing, for her work in bringing EIM-OC to GCSU and leading the campus's chapter of the program.

"I am very pleased and proud to have Georgia College & State University recognized as one of only 145 universities and colleges worldwide for our involvement in Exercise is Medicine," Nadler said. "This physical activity initiative, which we started last year, is an outstanding complement to the great work we are doing in the area of mental health."
