After the meeting, the Slovenian Prime Minister said that tomorrow's EU-Western Balkans Summit is important because Albania and North Macedonia made progress this year in their candidacies for EU membership. He highlighted his expectation that a significant step forward will also be made at tomorrow's EU-Western Balkans Summit regarding the harmonisation in connection with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Kosovo visa liberalisation.
The leaders particularly focused on the energy sector and the consequences for economic development, "Europe's unity, the maintenance of competitiveness of European industry and how the European citizens will assess the performance of the European institutions depend on the energy question," said Dr Golob and announced a discussion on this topic at the level of ministers and prime ministers.
The Slovenian Prime Minister and the President of the European Council also talked about migrations, especially the Western Mediterranean route. They agreed that the harmonisation of visa regimes in Western Balkans is crucial, and that certain progress has been made but it is necessary to insist on its continuation. The discussion partners also noted the provision of suitable political conditions for continued financial support to Ukraine.
In the end, the Prime Minister emphasised that it is possible to notice a significant, if not a complete, conformity between Slovenia's views and the prevailing views of EU member states.
