Council Member Paula Blackmon to create The Old Fish Hatchery at White Rock Lake Advisory Committee

DALLAS - Today, CouncilMemberPaula Blackmon (D-9) announced the creation of the Old Fish Hatchery at White Rock Lake AdvisoryCommittee to address the recent clearing by Oncor on its transmission right of way (ROW) at the Old Fish Hatchery at White Rock Lake. Recently, Oncor completed vegetation management work across approximately three acres of transmission ROW at the Old Fish Hatchery near the southern end of White Rock Lake. As a result, trees and vegetation, along with any wildlife, were cleared from the area and the City of Dallas was never notified.

'We are fortunate to have a little bit of nature in the heart of an urban area and it breaks my heart to see it in this state,' Blackmon said. 'I understand the need for reliable electric service. But, I am confident that we can all work together to create a space for birdwatchers, nature lovers, and wildlife enthusiasts in an area that is in the Oncor- owned right of way.'

Members of the TheOld Fish Hatchery at White Rock Lake Advisory Committeeinclude: District 9 Park Board Member Maria Hasbany(Co-Chair), Brent Brown (Co-Chair), Ben Sandifer, David Hurt, Kathryn Bazan, Kelly Cotton, Charles Elk, Ted Ellis, Garrett Boone, Sandy Greyson, Collin Koonce, Jill Kotvis& Ted Barker. The first virtual meeting of the advisory group will be on Thursday, October 22from 6 to 7:30 p.m.via Zoom.
