SISU holds first fishing event, promotes campus...

At 11:38am on December 19, with the sound of a gong, the 2023 Shanghai International Studies University fishing event kicked off at the Jinghu Lake in the Songjiang campus.

The event attracted many students and teachers who stopped to watch. Although it was raining slightly, there were still many "warriors" who joined this "underwater battle." With the help of professional fishermen, the students walked step by step into the lake. Although it was muddy on the lake bed, it did not stop their progress.

Li Shiyu, who watched the fishing from the shore, said happily: "This fishing event has a great sense of ceremony, especially at the moment of hitting the gong. Everyone went down to the lake to fish together, giving a festive atmosphere."

This is the first time SISU has held a fishing activity. Prior to this, the school had already caught 650 kilograms of fish. The students and teachers of the Hongkou and Songjiang campuses can go to the canteen to enjoy a free meal of fish on the day of the event. All canteens on the two campuses also provide free fish soup.

SISU released 1,500 kilograms of fish fry into Jinghu Lake in May for the first time, mainly common fish such as silver carp, grass carp, mandarin fish, carp and black fish. In addition to being edible, the fish can also filter and eat plankton, thereby improving the water transparency, and proper fishing is beneficial to maintaining the ecological balance of the lake.

Zhou Wenbiao, general manager of the logistics service center of the Songjiang campus of SISU, said that this event will be carried out regularly in the future. When spring comes, the school will release fish fry, and in winter, it will organize teachers and students to fish together, allowing everyone to enjoy some campus fun.
