DVL seeks islanders interested in operating wheelchair accessible taxis

Monday 30 January 2023

Driver and Vehicle Licensing (DVL) would like to hear from anyone interested in applying for a licence to operate a wheelchair accessible taxi.

Applicants should either already hold a Public Service Vehicle Permit or be willing to immediately apply for one. The vehicle used to operate the service will need to be fully wheelchair accessible and meet mandatory specifications. The vehicle specification for a wheelchair accessible taxi is available as a download at gov.gg/psv.

Successful applicants will be selected based on how well they score in relation to the following criteria:

  • The quality of marketing plan or proposals submitted.
  • Experience in assisting or caring for persons with a disability.
  • The hours and number of days that they propose to have the vehicle available.

Further information and an application form can be obtained by emailing DVL's Senior Passenger Transport Officer, Jonathan Guilbert ([email protected]).

DVL previously invited expressions of interest in October 2022 and as a result, two new licences for purpose-built wheelchair accessible vehicles were issued to address a shortage of accessible taxis. Another licence was also issued to replace a licence that a previous holder had returned. Therefore, six licences have now been issued out of a possible eight licences permitted within the Integrated Transport Strategy.
