Minister Tajani’s participation in the Foreign Affairs Council

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, is in Brussels to take part in the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council (FAC).

Chaired by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Horn of Africa.

After an exchange of views on the Western Balkans, the EU Foreign Ministers will hold an informal discussion with their counterparts from the six countries in the region (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia).

In the current affairs section, the Council will talk about Tunisia, which has also become a European topic in recent weeks, thanks - in particular - to the Italian impulse, and - among other topics - about Central Asia.

In the margins of FAC, Member States will also approve the new Civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Compact, an ambitious project to make EU civilian missions more effective, flexible and integrated with other Union instruments, in the light of the changed security environment.

During the day, besides participating in a discussion on the possible increased use of qualified majority voting in the CFSP area, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. He will also have meetings with other Foreign Ministers, also in preparation for the forthcoming European Council, with a special focus on migration issues.
