Sen. Ossoff Strengthening Automotive Workforce Development Programs in Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to strengthen workforce development programs in Atlanta.

Today, Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering Federal funding to the Automotive Training Center, which serves low-income, at-risk youth and young adults ages 15-25 in metro Atlanta and offers students on-the-job training and experience in the automotive repair industry.

Since its founding in 2014, the training center has trained more than 200 students, and nearly 80% of its graduates remain employed. With the funding, the Center will purchase additional equipment and space for job training programs, including new emissions and diesel repair training.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $250,000 for the project through this year's bipartisan government funding package, working alongside Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock.

"I remain focused on strengthening workforce development programs across our state. That's why I've appropriated funds to expand opportunities at the Automotive Training Center. I thank Automotive Training Center Co-Founder and Executive Director Larry Witherspoon Jr. for bringing this proposal to my office and for his leadership," Sen. Ossoff said.

"We were so elated to receive the Youth/Young Adult Workforce Development Congressionally Directed Spending award! We are currently working towards outfitting a new, larger facility that will significantly increase the amount of students impacted by our training. Additionally, we will use the larger space to offer emissions and diesel repair training to better prepare our students for the automotive repair industry," said Executive Director Larry Witherspoon Jr.
