Long Beach, CA - The KJLH Women's Health Expo, one of the largest health events for women in Southern California, will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Long Beach Convention Center (300 E Ocean Blvd.). The annual event will be sponsored by the Black Infant Health Program (BIH) Long Beach/Fresno. This year's Expo will highlight the BIH Program's significant 35-year milestone of unwavering commitment to providing culturally affirming services to Black women, birthing persons and their families across California.

"The KJLH Women's Health Expo remains a vital cornerstone in our community, providing invaluable opportunities for women to fortify their health awareness and access essential resources conducive to healthier lifestyles," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "I commend Black Infant Health Long Beach for their commitment to improving the health landscape for women in our community."

Under the theme, Women Turning Strength into Purpose, this event promises an enriching experience celebrating resilience, empowerment and the transformative journeys of women from all walks of life. The KJLH Women's Health Expo stands as a beacon for women, offering a platform designed to educate, empower and inspire attendees to take proactive steps toward managing their health and wellbeing. Attendees can expect a dynamic lineup of interactive exhibits, complimentary health screenings, enlightening workshops and keynote speakers addressing critical topics such as nutrition, fitness, mental health, reproductive health and financial wellness.

"It is an honor to once again host the Women's Health Expo in Downtown Long Beach, especially this year as we celebrate our Black Infant Health Long Beach program for its 35 outstanding years of service to our community," said First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas. "It is important to uplift and support programs that make such a tremendous positive impact on our community."

The Expo is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 a.m. and KJLH will broadcast live from 8 to 10 a.m. For more information and to register, people may visit the KJLH Women's Health Expo registration page. Registration is recommended but not required to attend.

"The KJLH Women's Health Expo epitomizes a transformative platform for women to glean cutting-edge health insights, engage with healthcare professionals, and avail themselves of essential health screenings," said Health and Human Services Director Alison King. "We are privileged to support this endeavor and collaborate with Black Infant Health Long Beach in their tireless efforts to elevate the health standards for women and families across our community."

The Black Infant Health Program, under the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, was created with the passage of California Senate Bill 165 of the Budget Act of 1989 to address the high rate of infant mortality for California Black families.
