Diaz-Balart: Another Week, Another Pelosi Lurch to the Left

'Once again, House Democratic Leadership continues to play games with the legislation that they are deciding to bring to the Floor. Instead of doing what is best for the American people and working together in a bipartisan manner, Speaker Pelosi continues to carry the water for the most radical left within their party. As my record shows, I have been a supporter of major provisions in this bill in the past, and I believe in the importance of providing equal pay for equal work for women. However, the changes that Democratic Leadership chose to include in the Paycheck Fairness Act this Congress are exceedingly unnecessary and, as such, cost them my support.

'I still believe in the importance of equal pay, and that is why I joined my colleague, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, in introducing the Wage Equity Act. This bill is modeled off of bipartisan legislation that has been enacted in a number of states across the country. Specifically, it encourages employers to proactively evaluate their pay practices and eliminate pay disparities in their workplaces while empowering employees to negotiate pay based on their qualifications and merit.

'I will continue to implore the Speaker, as I have so many times in the past, to put aside her partisan agenda and work across the aisle for the betterment of the American people.'
