What's new to watch on BBC iPlayer?

This week on iPlayer we will see Shane Meadow's dramatisation of Benjamin Myers' book Gallows Pole. The online sensation Belfast-born social media star Olivia Neill will try and find love in the Metaverse in Unreal! With Olivia Neil.

We'll follow nine celebrities on extremely personal journeys as they each delve into unknown family ancestry in series 20 of Who Do You Think You Are, and catch the final round of the Women's Super League fixtures for this season, seeing off a tense four-way race between Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City with MOTD Live: Women's Super League.

We're also headed to Dundee for Radio 1's Big Weekend where we'll see performances from some of the biggest names and hottest acts, including The1975, the Jonas Brothers and Jamie XX.

What's coming new to BBC iPlayer this week?

Gallows Pole

Based on the book by Benjamin Myers, director Shane Meadows, famous for his British realist works such as This is England and Dead Man's Shoes, fictionalises the remarkable true story of the rise of David Hartley and the Cragg Vale Coiners.

Set in the moorland hills of 18th Century Yorkshire, the drama follows the enigmatic David Hartley played by Michael Socha (This Is England, Papillon), as he assembles a gang of weavers and land-workers to embark upon a revolutionary criminal enterprise that will capsize the economy and become the biggest fraud in British history.

Belfast-born social media star Olivia Neill is an online sensation, with a digital reach of over three million.

Her relatable vlogs and knack for creating trending content have endeared her to the Gen Z audience who can't get enough of her offbeat brand of humour and addictive and hilarious personality. Now, this Northern Ireland tornado is bringing her sense of fun and energy to investigate some of the most 'unreal' outrageous life choices trending amongst her generation.

Follow nine celebrities on extremely personal journeys as they each delve into unknown family ancestry and unearth startling facts and truths about their heritage.

With familial discoveries ranging from clog-wearing rope dancers and Scottish royalty to murder trials and tragic accidents, the celebrities' journeys take them across the UK as well as to Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada, Jamaica and Australia in pursuit of the truth behind their family stories.

This newest series of Who Do You Think You Are? is filled with astonishing revelations for the celebrities who have chosen to bare all in Series 20 of the show. Musical theatre master Andrew Lloyd Webber unearths uncanny parallels between his life and the lives of his ancestors. Actor and comedian Emily Atack discovers that she, Ryan Reynolds and a certain football club have a lot more in common than she might ever have guessed.

Award-winning actors Claire Foy and Lesley Manville dive head-first into their family histories only to stumble upon stories worthy of any TV drama. Claire finds out that her family were caught up in a murder trial and Lesley learns how an ancestor fighting for workers' rights ended up paying a very heavy price.

The Great British Sewing Bee

Sara Pascoe welcomes 12 sewers to the Sewing Bee in Leeds. Judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young want to see how the newbies deal with 'Classics with a Twist'. For their first Pattern Challenge, the sewers make a top with a twist at its centre, which is a straightforward construction with a tricky brain-teaser.

For the 90-minute Transformation Challenge, they take the office uniform - a pencil skirt and blouse - and give it their own personal twist to reflect their style.

Finally, in the Made to Measure round, the sewers meet their models for the first time and attempt to perfectly fit a dress that has cut-out details. Who will impress the judges and win Garment of the Week, and whose hopes of staying in the competition won't last beyond week one?

25 years on from a peace agreement being reached, Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland shares intimate, unheard testimonies from all sides of the conflict. From the makers of the award-winning series Once Upon a Time in Iraq.

Featuring personal accounts from people who lived through The Troubles, sharing intimate stories from all sides of the conflict. The powerful new five-part documentary series combines personal accounts with archive footage to tell the story of the people and communities who had to live with violence on an everyday basis and are still dealing with its legacies today.

Annika

Witty, enigmatic DI Annika Strandhed heads up the marine homicide unit, tasked with solving murders in and around Scotland's waters. Starring Nicola Walker, and based on the BBC Radio 4 drama Annika Stranded. Having recently transferred to Glasgow along with her teenage daughter, Annika and her new team are called in to solve the murder of a man found in the Clyde, a harpoon piercing his head.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Beautiful blooms, dazzling designs and prize-winning plants as gardeners go for gold at the world's most famous flower show from the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Coverage begins with Nicki Chapman and Angellica Bell having exclusive access to the glitz and glamour of the opening day of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023. They are joined by a team of gardening experts, including Rachel de Thame, who travels the world without even leaving the showground, and Toby Buckland, who shows us how to upgrade our gardens the Chelsea way.

Steeltown Murders

A true crime drama in two time periods. Contrasting the policing methods of the 1970s with the forensic breakthroughs of the early Noughties, Steeltown Murders is a portrait of a town dealing with the repercussions of an unsolved case three decades on, and asks if justice can ever truly be found.

Ten Pound Poms

Get Set Galactic

This science-based gameshow sees two teams of young scientists visit S.T.A.R.S (Space Technology & Research Station) to take on a meteoric mission of fun challenges and win out-of-this world prizes.

First, they must work out if an object is heavier or lighter than another before placing it on a giant set of scales. Then the young scientists have to complete a huge fossil by digging for dinosaur parts in ball pits. Finally, the teams must make their way across a giant inflatable version of the solar system.

Can they get from Neptune to Mercury by stepping on every planet in the right order without getting knocked by the swinging stars?

Therapy: Tough Talking

Rapper, actor, and writer Kema Kay is struggling with his mental health. A difficult and tragic childhood have contributed to his doctor's prognosis that he could be suffering from depression in his adult life. Having been advised to try therapy, Kema bravely allows cameras inside his therapy sessions to follow his progress.

The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show

Chris and Rosie Ramsey return for a second series. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the always up-for-a-laugh, always startlingly honest husband and wife presenting duo will be joined by another celebrity couple to poke fun at life, relationships, annoyances, parenting and absolutely everything in between, as well as sharing their relationship highs and, let's face it, most importantly, their 'beefs'.

Blue Bag Life

A Storyville documentary. Filmed entirely on her mobile phone, the UK artist and filmmaker, Lisa Selby turns the camera on herself as she tries to understand her relationship with her late mother and her partner who is in prison - both heroin addicts. It leads to an exploration of her own feelings about becoming a mother. Won the audience award at the 2022 London International Film Festival.

Turkey: Empire of Erdogan

A documentary from BBC News tells the inside story of Erdogan's astonishing rise to power. With first-hand testimony from former president Abdullah Gul, former prime ministers, deputy PMs, party chiefs, opposition figures, analysts and journalists, this two-part series is a gripping and detailed account of the many battles Erdogan has had to fight along the way.

Black Ops

This six-part comedy thriller is set in East London and tells the story of Dom and Kay, two Police Community Support Officers who join the Met Police in the hope of cleaning up their community. Little Richard: King and Queen of Rock 'n' Roll

Little Richard can stake a claim on having invented rock 'n' roll. A black artist who grew up in the segregated south of the United States, Richard Penniman broke down barriers and took 1950s America by storm. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones supported him and drew inspiration from his musicianship and stagecraft. He went on to influence artists as diverse as David Bowie, Elton John, Michael Jackson and Prince.

Yet Little Richard spent years feeling his contribution to music had been overlooked in favour of white rock 'n' roll stars like Elvis Presley and Pat Boone. On top of that, the inner conflict between his religious beliefs and the music style he pioneered - as well as his battles with his own sexuality - led him to quit rock 'n' roll not just once, but twice.
