Two City employees receive annual awards for exceptional performance

Lewisville Construction Inspector Christopher Lee and Lewisville Police Department Records and Evidence Coordinator Shauna Wymack have earned the 2022 Maurice Strickland Award. Employees are honored with the Maurice Strickland Award in recognition of "performance of an exceptional nature" and "actions that support the city's vision and values."

CHRISTOPHER LEE

Lee has been overseeing the City's largest neighborhood rehabilitation project - the Timberbrook addition. He has, almost singlehandedly, kept the contractor on task and kept many resident issues from becoming bigger problems.

Lee independently reaches out to individual property owners to make sure the contractor has restored their irrigation, rectified any damage, and is often already investigating an issue when the project manager notifies him that there is an issue. In one case, a resident was afraid of backing their car out of the driveway while the contractor had the street under construction, so Lee would go to their house to help guide them out of the driveway when called. On another occasion, a different resident was not satisfied with the placement of their stone mailbox, so Lee got together with some workers and physically helped get the mailbox leveled and grouted back in place to the resident's satisfaction.

Lee is an invaluable resource and technically competent construction inspector. His prior TxDOT experience with major roadway and bridge construction has made him an invaluable resource. He quickly became familiar with City testing requirements and has held the Timberbrook contractor to a higher standard.

SHAUNA WYMACK

In late April 2021, Wymack promoted from Property & Evidence Supervisor to Police Records and Evidence Coordinator taking on the additional role of supervising the Records Division. In June 2021, Wymack and her Records team became responsible for the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) coding of all crimes reported to Lewisville PD. NIBRS, is a set of definitions and codes provided by the FBI identifying criteria allowing crimes in different geographic areas to be compared more effectively. Annual NIBRS submissions are required for a City's Federal Grant eligibility.

When Wymack took on this task, LPD was behind in its monthly NIBRS reporting due to the CAD/RMS refresh project that contained software bugs and lacked inclusion of all NIBRS guidelines impacting the ability to report accurately. By August 2021, LPD began submitting files to the DPS test site to recertify using NIBRS. LPD was able to recertify using NIBRS in February 2022. Shortly thereafter, Wymack submitted all required 2021 files by the March 2022 deadline for grant eligibility. In Fiscal Year 2020-21, the City received more than $3 million of Federal grant funding because Wymack reached her goals.

Wymack is an excellent leader, possesses stellar customer service, and has a tremendous rapport with officers. She cares for her teams and shows she values them in many ways including empathy, coaching, themed activities, and celebrations. Wymack accepts responsibility for her actions, responds well to coaching, and can be trusted with any task assigned.

Maurice Strickland was hired by the City of Lewisville in 1986 and retired in 2011 as Operations Supervisor over Utility Line Maintenance. His tenure with the City was exemplified by quality service and a customer-first attitude that set the finest example for his peers and employees. Shortly after his retirement, Maurice succumbed in his battle with cancer. As a tribute to his service and a reminder of the high standards he set for the organization, the City Manager's Award given to exemplary employees was renamed in his honor in 2012.
