DENVER - On Monday, Denver leaders will have another tool in their toolbox to help get workers the money they have earned. Community members, local leaders, and the Denver Auditor's Office look forward to joining bill co-sponsors Council Members Sarah Parady and Amanda Sawyer to celebrate the likely passage of the Denver Labor subpoena bill.
This bill gives the Auditor's Office the tools it needs to get information from private employers who do not voluntarily cooperate during wage theft investigations. By having a collaborative tool like this, the Auditor's Office can seek faster resolution and payment on behalf of workers, while limiting the burden for businesses.
But the work is not yet done. Community members will also speak about the need for uniform subpoena power across the entire Auditor's Office. A second bill supporting this common-sense tool for the Audit Services Division is forthcoming and will ensure community partners and city contractors are held equally accountable for how they use taxpayer dollars.
