Chairwoman Velázquez Statement on November Jobs Report

Washington, D.C.- Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its November jobs report:

"The November jobs report shows that the economy is working its way toward recovery at a steady pace. The unemployment rate is at its lowest level of the pandemic, more Americans are working or looking for jobs, and wages for working people continue to rise. In addition, some of the groups hit hardest by COVID made significant progress last month, as Black and Hispanic unemployment fell significantly. Overall, the November report shows that we are much further along in our recovery when compared to the aftermath of the Great Recession and other modern downturns.

"The President's economic plan is working, but with COVID lingering and the Omicron variant emerging, we can't afford to be complacent. The federal government must strive to vaccinate every eligible American. At the same time, we must continue to move forward with the Build Back Better Act. The historic bill will help push our recovery over the finish line and put Americans in a position to thrive in the future. I was proud to help pass the bill in the House; now it's time for the Senate to send it to the President's desk as soon as possible."
