10.03.2021

Yerevan Metro after Karen Demirchyan is already 40. This structure which is of important strategic significance was put into operation on March 7, 1981 and Yerevan became one of few cities which have the Underground despite its small population. On the occasion of the jubilee Mayor Hayk Marutyan visited the Metro.

'Yerevan and the whole Armenia feel proud of the Metro. Unfortunately, after the Soviet Union collapse we have added only one station, however, as you know, I dream of carrying out the project of adding another station and I will do my best to implement it. The competition for technical description has been announced, which means that in two months we will have a designing company which will win the tender and start designing the project. We also expect the government to stand by', noted the Mayor.

The participants of the event were the specialists who had been working at the Metro for four decades, people who took part in its construction and operation. On the event of the 40th anniversary Yerevan Mayor awarded gold medals to the head of 'Garegin Nzhdeh square' underground station 'Traffic' branch Ruzanna Davtyan, to the operator of 'Train operation and renovation' branch Zulumat Barseghyan, to the head of facility trains renovation workshop Avetik Grigoryan and to the head of 'Power supply' branch and technical emergency Aram Khachatryan. A number of other employees were rewarded with Yerevan Mayor's thanksgiving and honorary diplomas.
'40 years. This period is full of meaning: many years of hard work to preserve this important construction. Having visited the capital cities of many countries I can state that our Metro is really peculiar and clean. Keeping it so clean and in a good condition is possible thanks to you. I'd like to express my gratitude to you for your good job', stressed the Mayor.
