Department of Labor announces Advisory Board on Toxic Substances, Worker Health will meet May 8-9 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

WASHINGTON - The Department of Labor today announced the Advisory Board on Toxic Substances and Worker Health for Part E of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act will hold an online meeting from May 8-9, 2024, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Meetings are open to the public.

The act provides compensation and medical benefits to nuclear weapons workers diagnosed with medical conditions caused by their exposure to toxic substances at covered nuclear facilities.

The Secretary of Labor appoints advisory board members to two-year terms. Meeting at least twice a year, the board advises the secretary on certain technical aspects of the EEOICPA. The 12-member board includes four members from the scientific, medical and claimant communities. Dr. Steven Markowitz is the board's chair.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, May 9 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. EDT

The in-person meeting may also be attended via teleconference or online. Information on how to attend will be posted on the advisory board's website no later than 72 hours before the meeting date.
