VCUarts Theatre will present the outrageously funny "The Imaginary Invalid" from Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.

Directed by Jeff Darland and adapted by Constance Congdon, "The Imaginary Invalid" is the last work of the celebrated French satirist Molière. The story is set in 17th-century France, where the melodramatic Argan suffers from imagined ills and endless, unnecessary treatments. Argan plans to marry off his daughter to a doctor so he can save on his medical bills; however, she's in love with someone else. Soon the whole household joins in her madcap scheme to save true love and give Argan's doctors a dose of their own medicine.

Audiences can expect over-the-top emotions, physical comedy, "period-ish" design and costumes, and many laughs.

Tickets are $15, with discounts available for students, alumni, seniors and the VCU community. VCUarts Theatre alumni can book two complimentary tickets to any performance in advance. All tickets are general admission.

The VCUarts Theatre box office is now cashless. Tickets can be purchased online or in person with a credit/debit card. All ticket holders should check in at the box office on arrival. Online ticket sales close 90 minutes prior to showtime, and the box office opens on site one hour before performances. Seating typically opens 30 minutes before performances.
