Milestone Achieved

Six years ago, it was a needs-driven idea driven by the compassion to make a dent in the affordable housing market for seniors, disabled, and other needy and disadvantaged families.

The Community Homes of Lebanon Valley Board of Directors voted yes to take on the responsibility of finding funding and building a 23-unit, handicap-friendly housing project for qualified new residents. Phase One of Three is complete. Community Homes is pleased to announce that the first eight units are occupied as of April,2024.

"Four of the new resident groups were rescued from homelessness, and the other four overcame special needs problems, thanks to the handicap-friendly nature of their new homes. This is what the Canal Street Affordable Housing Project is all about," says Glenn Wenger, Board of Directors Chair.

"The make-up of the Canal Street Project resident community is unlike any other we are serving," adds Community Homes CEO Charlie Rush, "We recognize the all-inclusive nature of people needing housing assistance. Since issues arise that are first-time occurrences, we have assigned each resident to have access to one of our resident services staff team members. Ongoing communication is essential."
