Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with President of Guinea-Bissau

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo and in the course of the meeting, expressed his satisfaction with the traditionally friendly and brotherly relationship between the two countries and their peoples, dating back to the times of the people of Guinea-Bissau's struggle for independence and freedom.

Dr Orlic welcomed President Embalo, saying that his new visit to Belgrade is a strong impulse for the further intensification of overall cooperation and strengthening of the already high-quality dialogue at all levels. He pointed to the symbolic value of the meeting with the President of Guinea-Bissau in the House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the building where the first, founding summit of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries was held in 1961.

President Embalo praised the excellent relations between the two countries and the fact that their establishment will soon mark its 50th anniversary. He expressed satisfaction at the formation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Guinea-Bissau in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the willingness to further improve parliamentary cooperation. He said that "brotherly Serbia" can count on the support of his country on all important issues.

Dr Orlic thanked President Embalo because he has always showed respect for Serbia and its clear position on the inviolability of territorial integrity and sovereignty as fundamental principles, taking the opportunity to congratulate Embalo on the signing of important agreements between the governments of Serbia and Guinea-Bissau, as well as on his assuming the office chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia expressed his belief that Serbia can count on the support of its friends in its bid to host EXPO 2027, which President Embalo confirmed.

In the course of the meeting, the Speaker shared Serbia's strong determination to strengthen cooperation with Guinea-Bissau, based on mutual respect and appreciation, in economy, culture, education and all other areas of mutual interest. "You heard today from the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic and the ministers of the Government of Serbia, and we in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia can confirm the same - we are ready to personally contribute to the development of cooperation in every aspect and further strengthen our alliance, friendship and brotherhood and in the future", concluded the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The meeting with the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Snezana Paunovic and MP Djordje Todorovic, both members of the PFG with the Republic of Guinea-Bissau in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
