The History Boys

At a modest grammar school in '80s Sheffield, this Olivier and Tony Award-winning play follows a group of unruly but charming and funny Sixth Formers who haul in a batch of unusually good A-Level History results. They're streamed off as an elite set to stay an extra term and sit entrance exams for Oxford and Cambridge Universities (Oxbridge).

Teachers Hector & Lintott, who've brought their star pupils to this jumping off point, are judged inadequate by the headmaster for the task ahead. A supply teacher, Irwin, is recruited. Apparently, an Oxford man, he has the bag of tricks that will get the boys through.

Conflicts ensue because Hector, the old idealist, and Irwin, the young pragmatist, represent opposite conceptions of the study of history. They're opposite in other ways, which will eventually lead to dire consequences.
