OLATHE, Kan. - The Terracon Foundation has awarded two $2,500 grants to support recovery efforts after tornadoes touched down in late April in Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Local community relief will be provided through two organizations: Direct Relief and the Tornado Relief Fund at The Center for Disaster Philanthropy.
"The Terracon Foundation is proud to support regional organizations serving people in the communities most impacted by this spring's devastating tornadoes. Our hearts go out to these communities," said Derek Koller, CIH, CHMM, chair of the Terracon Foundation and office manager based in Tucson, Ariz.
Direct Relief is supplying medications and hygiene kits to shelters and clinics in the affected areas. Based on learnings from past severe weather events, Direct Relief maintains an inventory of chronic disease medications often requested after disasters to minimize healthcare interruptions for those experiencing upheaval in the wake of a storm.
The Center for Disaster Philanthropy's Tornado Relief Fund specializes in medium- and long-term disaster recovery, especially for marginalized and at-risk populations. While immediate relief and cleanup needs are often met by short-term cash infusions, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy plans for critical items needed months or years after the initial disaster such as rebuilding homes, mental health services, and more.
The Terracon Foundation was established with a goal to reach out and become a real part of the lives of Terracon employees and the communities where they live and work. Established as the community investment arm of Terracon, the foundation has granted over $4 million to community organizations, universities, dependents of employees, and disaster relief efforts.
Terracon is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm with more than 6,000 employees providing environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services from more than 175 locations with services in all 50 states.
