Last chance to take part in important journalism industry research

The deadline to fill in the NCTJ's important Journalists at Work research is now just under a week away.

There are only five days left for journalists to log their experiences of their job by filling in the 15/20-minute online questionnaire.

The survey asks a variety of questions, including around workload, salaries, skills requirements and expectations of managers.

More than 1,000 UK journalists across all media sectors have now filled in the survey and it will close on Monday, 22 April - almost exactly three months since it opened in January.

Joanne Forbes, NCTJ chief executive, said: "Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey, or supported us in reaching journalists in every corner of the industry.

"We are overwhelmed by the response and the answers will be invaluable to understanding the reality of being a journalist in 2024.

"I look forward to releasing and analysing the results, which will enable media stakeholders and policy makers to make evidence-driven decisions to better the industry for all."

The Journalists at Work research has been conducted by the NCTJ periodically since 2002, with most recent report published in 2018. Therefore, the 2024 survey is the latest piece of the puzzle of how the industry has evolved over more than two decades.

Issues included for the first time this year include the emergence of artificial intelligence, the safety of reporters in the field, the resilience of journalists in newsrooms, and remote and flexible working.

The data garnered from the Journalists at Work survey is extra important this year because we have taken the difficult decision not to publish our Diversity in Journalism report in 2024. This is due to concerns over the official data upon which it is based. Find out more here.
