Plaza Park Safety Enhancement Project to Begin

Last year, the City Council awarded a project to install a series of safety improvements to Plaza Park. The project consists of a series of improvements meant to provide layers of protection to Plaza Park and those who may be in it. The improvement include:

  • Installation of crash-rated bollards along pedestrian walkways facing spoke streets.
  • Retrofitting existing Plaza Park perimeter bollards that face the street sections to be reinforced with concrete and steel rebar.
  • Reconstruction of concrete walkways within reinforced bollard reconstruction areas with Old Towne color, finish, and scoring pattern.
  • Installation of electrical service and up-lighting to illuminate crash-rated bollards within walkways and cross lighting of trees for additional motorist visibility.

The improvements also previously included the additional of decorative delineators that were installed back in November to better define the painted medians on Chapman and Glassell approaches to the Plaza.

Construction is scheduled to start on February 27th, with work scheduled to be complete by the end of April, weather permitting. During construction Plaza Park and the crosswalk access to the park will be closed.
