Telekom Slovenije's Cyber Security Operations Centre detecting a growing number of cyberattacks

Telekom Slovenije's Cyber Security Operations Centre has noted a significant increase in the number of cyberattacks over the past two years; this year alone the number of attacks increased by more than a half compared to last year, and last year was already record setting. "The number of security incidents is growing with the increasing sped of digitalisation and remote work; in recent period attacks on e-mail accounts, remote access services and cloud services have been very frequent, with a notable rise in attacks on mobile devices," emphasised Rok Prešern, PhD, director of ICT and network services at Telekom Slovenije.

This year Telekom Slovenije has also handled the biggest load of cases related to abuse or attempted abuse of login data so far, with attempted external and internal network scans, and with access to malicious or vulnerable websites. "Denial and distributed denial of services attacks (DoS and DDoS) are commonplace, as well as phishing attacks, where we have noted an increase in text-message-based attacks, malware attacks, and attacks that take advantage of app vulnerabilities. However, it should be noted that an informed user is just as important a factor as modern security tools, as users are most often the weakest link in cyber protection. That is why it is so important to constantly inform, educate and train users on cybersecurity," pointed out Rok Prešern.

This August Telekom Slovenije's service Varen splet (Safe internet), which is available to residential and business users, blocked more than a half a million cyberattacks, a new record. The Varen splet service recognises malicious websites and protects users from online fraud and transferring harmful software to their computers and mobile phones. The solution blocks access to a harmful website, making the user also safe from attempted data theft or abuse, such as passwords, credit card data, personal data, etc.

Cyberattacks can be focused either on individuals or on businesses of all sizes. Small and medium businesses are especially vulnerable, as they often lack dedicated security experts and have not implemented sufficient cybersecurity. Telekom Slovenije has prepared an attractively priced bundle of services for just this segment that includes the implementation of technical solutions, expert support and monitoring security events 24/7/365. Enterprise systems can opt for additional support and consulting.

Telekom Slovenije's cybersecurity experts also perform system security reviews, reviews of compliance with the information security policy and standards, and reviews of suitability of technical measures for protecting personal data. They also provide businesses with comprehensive management of their IT infrastructure and a system for managing secure business mobility and business applications across all user devices.
