30th Annual Kids Fishing Derby

Cast your excitement and reel in some fun at this year's Kids Fishing Derby! The Camden County Solid Waste Authority is pleased to announce the 30th Annual Kids Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024. From 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., children 16 years and under are invited to participate. The derby will be hosted at the SR-110 landfill.

The Kids Fishing Derby, now in its 30th year, utilizes a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) program to stock this pond and others statewide to promote youth fishing. According to georgiawildlife.com, "Fishing together with your child and family can build some powerful memories. Research shows that most people are introduced to fishing by a family member, and most consider a family member to be their best fishing friend."

Fishing Derby participants should bring fishing poles and chairs. Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish, heaviest fish, most fish caught, and youngest fisher. Fish will be measured from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and the awards will be presented at 11:00 a.m. The Solid Waste Authority, along with sponsors Georgia DNR, Folkston Auto Supply, and Yancey Brothers, will provide hot dogs, drinks, and bait.

The SR-110 Landfill is located on Georgia Highway 110 in extreme southwest Camden County, approximately 2.75 miles from the intersection of Georgia Highway 40 and Georgia Highway 110. For more information, please call 912-729-4099.
