The ambassador emphasised the importance of the University of Tartu's moral support for Ukraine. He also thanked the university for assistance to students and academic staff of Ukrainian origin. Kononenko, who took up his post as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia this spring, proposed to the rector to find more opportunities for collaboration and introduced Ukrainian universities interested in cooperation with the University of Tartu.

Since the beginning of the Russian Federation's large-scale military operations in Ukraine, the University of Tartu has offered psychological counselling, special scholarships, the opportunity to apply for allowances, and free student places to the Ukrainian members of the university. The rector assured that the University of Tartu will continue to support Ukrainian students in their studies and research and is ready to share our experiences to help Ukrainians on their way towards accession to the European Union.

During his visit to Tartu, the ambassador also visited the Vanemuine Theatre, Tartu Welcome Centre, Tartu Art Museum, and the HUUM company.
