King of Prussia, PA- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that lane and ramp closures are planned next Thursday on northbound Interstate 95 in Center City Philadelphia under the $329 million CAP project to replace and expand the covered area over the interstate.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Thursday, April 4, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a left lane closure with intermittent traffic paces will be in place on northbound I-95 between South Street and Market Streetfor construction equipment relocation.
  • Thursday, April 4, from 6:00 AM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the northbound I-95 on-ramp at Lombard Circlewill be closed. Traffic heading to northbound I-95 will be directed to the on-ramp from Columbus Boulevard south of Lombard Street.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

By replacing and extending the cap over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard between Chestnut and Walnut streets, the I-95 Central Access Philadelphia (CAP) Project will improve pedestrian and multimodal connections between Center City and the waterfront. The project has two main components: a new Park at Penn's Landing, and a new signature bridge at South Street, both of which will also extend over Columbus Boulevard to connect cyclists and pedestrians to the newly completed Delaware River Trail.
