Cedars Roundabout improvement scheme update

Posted on: 26 January 2024

The latest information on the Cedars Roundabout improvement scheme can be found on our dedicated webpage.

The page, which will be updated regularly, includes details of the scheme, traffic management arrangements and an FAQ which addresses common questions and concerns.

If your question isn't addressed on the webpage, or in the accompanying documents or FAQ, there is also a contact email listed; we will try to answer your question as soon as we can.

The scheme includes the widening of the southern arm of the roundabout to enable the delivery of a new signalised crossing.

The aim of the scheme is to tackle current traffic congestion along the Fremington/Bickington corridor and to increase capacity of the junction in expectation of a continued increase in traffic in the future.

For many years traffic levels from the Bickington/Fremington corridor have progressively increased and, with new developments planned, this is expected to continue.

This scheme, paid for by developers, aims to make it easier for people to cross the A3125 Bickington Road and will help vehicles from the Bickington and Fremington area to enter the roundabout.

This, combined with a widened exit and electronic queue monitors on the Bickington Road, will help to ease traffic flow and reduce existing waiting times from that direction.

Most of the works are being carried out using temporary traffic lights at the roundabout, and occasional overnight closures.

The lights were originally manually controlled from 7am to 7pm, but this has been amended to 6.30am to 6.30pm and may be extended further from 6am to 7pm.

Unfortunately, the work inevitably means traffic delays for the duration of the works - however traffic monitoring over the past week has indicated that vehicle waiting times at the junction are reducing.

Traffic queues and delays, including to bus services, are being monitored and we apologise for the inconvenience caused and we are doing everything possible to reduce waiting times for traffic.

Further information can be found on the scheme's webpage.
