Spain and Honduras agree to mutually recognise driving licences and promote Spanish internationally

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, held a meeting with the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Honduras, Enrique Reina, following which they signed agreements on the mutual recognition of driving licences and the international promotion of the Spanish language.

The agreement to mutually recognise driving licences, signed this Monday at the Palace of Viana, will bring new job opportunities and stability for both the Honduran diaspora living in Spain and the Spanish community in Honduras.

Albares and Reina also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the international promotion of the Spanish language in the diplomatic arena and in international organisations. The agreement highlights the status of Spanish as a global language and the important role it can play in international law and international legal cooperation.

During the meeting, both ministers reviewed the main issues on the bilateral, regional and multilateral agenda, and expressed an interest in further strengthening bilateral relations.

Spain remains firmly committed to the integration process in Central America, especially during these uncertain times, and Albares expressed his best wishes to Reina for success during the Honduran pro tempore presidency of the Central American Integration System (SICA), which his country holds for the first half of 2024.

Both parties reaffirmed the importance they attach to the Ibero-American Summits. These represent a unique space for political dialogue and regional cooperation characterised by continuity and permanence, which, the ministers stressed, it is very important to preserve.
