Grad’s path to degree included extra rigor

By almost any measure, pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing requires commitment to a rigorous schedule. The same could be said for being a college student-athlete. Madison Treu did both.

Treu, a standout member of Texas Woman's competitive dance team, earned a bachelor's degree in nursing in May 2024.

Treu was drawn to TWU because of its outstanding nursing program and the campus was the right size for her. She was inspired to pursue nursing out of a desire to help improve the lives of others through care, kindness and advocacy. She wants to make her patients feel heard, valued, respected and cared for.

As a student-athlete, she credits her professors for making it possible to pursue her passion of participating in student athletics while studying to become the best nurse possible.

Treu is a recipient of Texas Woman's Alumni Parkland TWU Nurses Chapter Annual Scholarship, the Bettejoe Rogers Pendleton Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Athletics, and the Outstanding New Student Scholarship. She has been recognized on the Chancellor's List and the Dean's List.

As a four-year collegiate athlete on the TWU Dance Team that placed in the top three nationally in Division II, Treu was recognized as the Comeback Player of the Year in TWU Athletics and as a National Dance Alliance Collegiate All-American.

She begins a residency in July at Texas Health in Fort Worth, and says is considering continuing her education.

Treu said she is grateful for her family, friends, instructors and TWU Athletics for their support and life lessons throughout her journey as a nursing student and dance team member.
