Vulnerable Republican Ashley Hinson Put on Notice as First Democratic Challenger Enters Race

Ashley Hinson's failed leadership in Iowa has made her one of the most vulnerable members of Congress in the country - and today, she was put on notice when she got her first Democratic challenger of the 2022 cycle.

Just months into her first term, Hinson has already proven she's wrong for Iowa. At every turn Hinson has sided with extreme party leaders over doing what's right for working families in her district. Voters won't soon forget Hinson's out-of-touch and hyperpartisan record which includes:

  • Attempting to block a middle class tax cut for working Iowa families which is already giving 48,000 households in IA-01 sorely needed tax relief.

  • Voting against the American Rescue Plan, which delivered critical relief to help Iowa turn the corner on the pandemic - including more than $240.7 million in local funding directly for Iowa's first Congressional district, $1,400 checks to pad working families' pockets, and support for Iowa restaurants and small businesses.

  • Siding with far-right extremists and party leaders by voting multiple times against a bipartisan investigation into the January 6 insurrection, a violent attack on our democracy which cost multiple lives including a Capitol Police officer.

'Ashley Hinson's extreme record of siding with party leaders over Iowans has made her one of the most endangered members of Congress,' said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. 'Iowans deserve an independent voice in Congress who will work hard to deliver real results for small businesses and workers - but Hinson has made clear she's more interested in serving Washington Republicans than northeast Iowans.'
