Keeping Communities Safe: Newton's Hazardous Household Waste Satellite Center

The Hazardous Household Waste Satellite Center opened for the season on Monday, April 1. The landfill has contracted the Metro Waste Authority to accept and recycle various products, including fluorescent bulbs, sharps, flammable liquids and solids, acids, bases, and pesticides. Customers can call ahead or visit the scale house for assistance in dropping off hazardous household waste. Recently, the staff underwent an 8-hour Hazardous Household Waste Safety Refresher training at the Metro Waste Authority Recycling Center in Grimes. The training covered the proper and safe handling of hazardous waste, along with reviews of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Remedial Response and Action Plans (ERRAP), and Storm Water Pollution and Prevention Plans (SWWP).
