April 25 Meeting Highlights

Grey County Council met on April 25, 2024, in the Council Chamber and virtually on Zoom. The meeting was immediately followed by a session of Committee of the Whole. Recordings of the meetings can be found on Grey County's YouTube Channel.

• Council accepted the minutes of the April 11 County Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. CouncilCommittee

Committee of the Whole

• Grey County Council has declared conditional support for the TC Energy pump storage project in the Municipality of Meaford, pending necessary environmental studies, approvals and the support of Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Council discussed the project, citing the importance of power storage in Ontario's energy future as well as the local economic benefits. The project aligns well with many of Grey County's strategies, such as the County's Climate Action Plan, Corporate Strategic Plan, and Economic Development, Tourism and Culture Plan. Councillor Boddy brought forward the motion. A letter will be sent to TC Energy, Saugeen Ojibway Nation and federal and provincial ministers advising them of the declaration.
• Grey County Council recommended awarding the Rockwood Terrace general construction contract to Melloul-Blamey Construction Ltd. with a bid of $59,230,000 (excluding HST). The project will be co-funded by the provincial government and requires approval from the Ministry of Long-Term Care before the tender can be formally awarded. ReportMedia ReleaseProject Webpage
• Grey County will develop a memorandum of understanding with Grey Highlands, the Town of the Blue Mountains and Regional Tourism Organization 7 to outline commitments for achieving the goals of the Beavery Valley Sustainable Tourism Strategy. This strategy and three-year action plan aim to balance the economic, social, cultural and environmental needs and opportunities in the Beaver Valley Corridor. Report
• Grey County will create a new ecological offsetting policy following consultation with member municipalities, conservation authorities, the Indigenous community, the building community and the Niagara Escarpment Commission. This new policy will preserve natural heritage in the area by balancing ecological impact during the development process. If development has an environmental impact and preservation options are not available, the policy will allow for compensation in equal or greater environmental value elsewhere. Report
