Davis Cup Finals joins United Nations climate change initiative

Kosmos Tennis, the company partnering with the ITF to organise the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals, is proud to announce that it has joined the United Nations Climate Change initiative, Sports for Climate Action Framework.
To help align the sports sector with the goals of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement, the framework provides the opportunity for sports organisations and their wider communities worldwide to come together to help achieve the net zero emission economy of 2050 outlined in the agreement.
Climate change is already having an impact on sport, including through damage to playing surfaces and facilities; through change to natural venues, for instance for winter and water sports; and through disruption to the global sporting calendar through events such as unprecedented heat or rainfall.
The global sporting community has an important part to play in the fight against climate change, not only by working towards increasing sustainable practices and supporting specific climate initiatives, but also by providing leadership and inspiration, helping to spread the message of climate action to the many, many people who love and engage in sport around the world.
The framework is based on five principles that all signatories commit to:
Principle 1: Undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility;
Principle 2: Reduce overall climate impact;
Principle 3: Educate for climate action;
Principle 4: Promote sustainable and responsible consumption;
Principle 5: Advocate for climate action through communication.
Kosmos Tennis is proud to be part of this initiative and will adopt these five principles at all possible points in its work organising and staging the Davis Cup Finals.

First step: Ecovidrio partnership

As one of its first actions under the framework, Kosmos has recently formed an agreement with recycling firm Ecovidrio. Recycling is an important way of fighting climate change by promoting the re-use of natural resources and helping to stop CO2 emissions from reaching the atmosphere. Kosmos will shortly be announcing specific initiatives with Ecovidrio for the Davis Cup Finals. Find more about Ecovidrio here.
